Book 1, Post 1

The book I have chosen to read is Brian Cox’s Putting the Rabbit in the Hat. I chose this book because the subject of the book, Brian Cox, was an actor I have recently discovered through Succession. When I think of actors, I have a preconception that they started at a higher point in life than normal such as being from an affluent family however this is not the case for Brian Cox. Reading this Cox’s autobiography has really helped me remember that even people that are very successful were not always as fortunate their whole lives. So, I think that reading this book has reminded me to relieve my preconceived thoughts about people who are very successful.

Starting at the prologue, I was shocked to see the name Steven Seagal. Seagal is an actor not many of my friend’s know of but I do because my parents loved the Under Siege series. Also, I never knew I had seen Cox in The Glimmer Man over a decade ago. Brian Cox comes across as a very humble person, who doesn’t take himself too seriously. His diction seems very colloquial, yet he sprinkles words like equine or affable that reminds me that his vocabulary must be very expansive. Overall, I love the way that the book reads. It feels like Cox is recounting stories to me and I can’t wait to finish the book.

  1. Hi Alexis, I have yet to see Succession, but am really interested in it. It is always enjoyable to see celebrities with a normal personality in their writing, rather than trying to act above others.
