World We Dare to Imagine, Part 3

NewMinds Developing the minds of underserved students WHAT WE WANT TO SOLVE The main problem I am looking to solve with my organization is inequity in educational resources for underserved low-income students. First generation low income students like myself, often find themselves lost when it comes to things related to college such as the FAFSA or the importance of the PSAT/SAT for college admissions. Even when these resources are given to them, they are often far too late in their high school career to be of use to them. In my case, I was unaware of the benefits of scoring well on the PSAT until after I had taken my two attempts. WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE? I want to create learning centers within each school district of Los Angeles. These centers would be free of charge and catered to 1st years in high school so that we can help them as soon as possible. There are three main points to these learning centers that I believe differentiate us from other resources out there: 1. Ease of Access...

World We Dare to Imagine, Part 1

World We Dare to Imagine I think that something I would want to follow through on in the future post is giving back to my community. I want to start with my community because it was what brought me to where I am now. I want to continue to foster an environment that encourages kids that grew up in my area to pursue higher education. I had so many resources given to me by the kindness of others and I hope to do something like that in the future. I have no clear plans but I know I want to have an impact. For me to take my first step towards this I have to focus on myself and get into a position where I can provide some value to my community. Furthermore, I want to find others like me from my community that would join me in my mission to help others. I have much more to figure out in my plans to make this come true, however I know I will make it happen at some point in my future.

Life So this weekend I went home to celebrate my Mom's Birthday. We had a great time this weekend and made the most of it. Then when I got home, I started realizing that my life was moving quicker than I thought. I had just remembered my Mom's previous birthday and thought it had just happened like three months ago. Then I looked at my calendar and noticed I'm graduating in one month and I have no idea what my plans are. It hit me like a truck, All the experiences I've had these last 4 years from Zoom to now, it's coming to an end.  Anyways, I need to start doing some planning for my future before I'm actually done with college. I currently feel as if I am very busy, yet I'm not gaining much from what I'm doing. I want to find a job and something that makes me want to be more proactive. On a better note, I have two exciting weekends to look forward to one being a retreat with one of my club's and the other is a visit to my friends at UC Davis. I'...

Book 2 Post 2

So the book I chose to read was Feel Good Productivity: How to Do More of What Matters to You by Ali Abdaal. The reason I chose this book is because I want to be more productive as many times I feel as the things I do provide no value to me and I put aside the things that will actually benefit me. There were many things I hoped to get out of this book, but what I was looking forward to the most was a way to change the way I approach the things I do and how to pick what I should really focus on. So I got a lot of information from my reading of this book. I have learned facts about productivity and how people approach it differently from studies and experiences cited in the book. The book was an easy read and I think it was very well organized in the way it conveys information. One of my favorite quotes from this book was “ Confession: I used to be addicted to World of Warcraft”. This quote just threw me off because I used to love playing this game growing up and I just really resonated...

Investment Proposal Draft

To: Professor Clark Hansen, CEO, AMDP From: Alexis Santos, Research and Development Analyst, AMDP Date: March 5th, 2024 Subject: Proposal to consider investment in Veja Dear Mr. Hansen, In line with Anima Mundi Development Partners' values of social responsibility, environmental sustainability, and profitability, I propose that AMDP invest in Veja. Veja is a company that focuses on having "one foot in design and the other in social responsibility". Before diving into what this means for Veja, I want to set a foundation on which we shape our investment criteria. Fundamental Concepts Triple Bottom Line - A business concept that states firms should not solely focus on generating profit, but also be conscious of their social and environmental impact (Harvard Business School). Corporate Social Responsibility - An idea that a "business has a responsibility to the society that exists around it". This responsibility can be present in forms such as: Environmental Respons...

Book 2 Post 1

The book I have picked to read is Feel Good Productivity: How to Do More of What Matters to You  by Ali Abdaal. I picked this book because I have bad habits in terms of how I work that I want to improve such as procrastination. The blurb that was given to us makes me think that I will get unconventional advice on how to improve my productivity which is something I look forward too. So there are a couple of things I am looking for in this reading. First, I want it to be straightforward in advice like telling me steps or practices I can do to increase my productivity. Second, I want it to be readable in the sense that there is not a lot of jargon or esoteric terms, in other words, I want it to be an easy read. Last, I want to be able to really apply what I learn as soon as possible, so I hope the steps or practices I mentioned before are implementable into my current position.

My Random Post

Did anyone see the NBA Dunk Contest over the weekend? I watch the All-Star weekend every year and this year may have pushed me away from it until they improve it. It was the most unimpressive dunk contest I have ever witnessed. My first complaint is the line-up. Jaylen Brown, Mac McClung, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Jacob Toppin. They had 2 g-league players and a guy that can't dribble with his left (Jaylen Brown).  Now onto the dunks. Jaime Jaquez Jr. dunked over Shaquille O'Neal but pushed off of him, so not too crazy. Then he did a dunk... with a hat on... that was it. This dunk bewildered me at how uncreative and weak it was. Toppin had a better dunk with a reverse jumping over someone. Jaylen Brown was astounding, it was astounding how uncreative his dunks were (I'm a Celtics fan). First he dunked with a white glove on his left hand, that was the whole dunk. After he proceeded to jump over a 5'4 man... that was sitting in a chair. Mac McClung the only one who had good du...
